Three Raymond Buildings has a long and distinguished history of involvement in major public inquiries and inquests, one of our earliest cases being the Lynksey Tribunal of 1948, a high-profile public inquiry into allegations of political corruption which gripped the nation over the course of two months in 1948.
We are recognised as a leading set in this field, acting in many of the UK’s most important, sensitive and legally complex cases from Hillsborough, 7/7, Litvinenko and Leveson to Grenfell, Manchester Arena, Covid-19 and Post Office.
Our barristers have extensive experience across a broad range of sectors, including policing, terrorism and criminal activity, public safety, healthcare, workplace fatalities, regulatory failures and governmental decision-making.
From statutory and non-statutory public inquiries to complex jury and non-jury inquests, we are known for our exceptional advocacy, meticulous preparation and ability to manage sensitive and often challenging evidence with care, precision and professionalism.
We are regularly instructed both by inquiries themselves and by a diverse range of participants, including bereaved families, public authorities, government departments, corporate bodies, regulated professionals and private individuals. Clients particularly value our sensitive and pragmatic approach, particularly when representing bereaved families and vulnerable witnesses.
Several members of chambers hold, or have held, judicial and quasi-judicial appointments, including roles as assistant coroners and inquiry chairs. This experience provides our clients with valuable insight into the conduct and management of such proceedings.
Drawing on expertise across criminal, regulatory and coronial law, we guide clients through every stage of the process. Our barristers are frequently instructed from the earliest stages of proceedings, to advise on:
As we also represent and advise individuals and organisations caught up in an investigation, we are very well-placed to provide seamless, continuous representation, if legal proceedings ensue.
In addition, we deliver bespoke training on all aspects of public inquiries and inquests, tailored to the needs of public bodies, organisations, corporate clients and legal professionals.
