Regulatory enforcement through the criminal law has expanded significantly in recent years with the introduction of both primary and secondary legislation designed to set and enforce standards for providers of goods and services to the public.
Emerging from our position as the pre-eminent criminal and licensing set and our understanding of the regulatory environment, Three Raymond Buildings has established a strong reputation in this area. We are regularly instructed by local and national regulators as well as regulated companies and individuals across a wide range of industries. We have expertise in both civil and criminal proceedings and appear before the in the full range of relevant courts and tribunals.
We regularly conduct seminars and lectures for regulators, corporations and individuals across a wide range of industries in relation to all aspects of regulatory enforcement.
We have involvement in cases involving trading standards, trade descriptions and product safety. We have represented national and international importers and distributers such as Easylife and PMS International Plc.
We have acted in matters dealing with water pollution, fisheries, waste management and disposal, as well as related planning issues and noise pollution. Recent and current cases involve criminal proceedings against national water companies for water pollution and a wide range of proceedings against leisure operators on environmental issues.
We act for local authorities and major operators of hotels, bars, restaurants and casinos, festivals and outdoor events as well as small and independent businesses. Clients include City Centre Restaurants, J D Wetherspoon, Gondola (Pizza Express) and The Restaurant Group.
We represent both railway regulators and industry. Recent and current cases include giving advice on prosecution in sensitive cases and in respect of fatalities and serious accidents as well as appearing at inquests and criminal trials. Members of Chambers represented several parties in the high profile inquest into the Hatfield rail disaster.
We have been instructed by the Security Industry Authority on a number of high profile cases concerning both licensing and criminal enforcement under the Private Security Industry Act 2001.
We also advise a broad range of corporate clients on compliance with the Act and, when necessary, represent corporate clients and individuals accused of acting in breach of the regulations.
