Three Raymond Buildings has long had an unrivalled reputation in the field of criminal related public law, for example, two members of chambers recently appeared in the Supreme Court in the judicial review (R(ElGizouli)) arising out of the mutual legal assistance request in connection with El Shafee Elsheikh, the so-called ‘ISIS Beatle’. Two other members of chambers recently acted for Zamira Hajiyeva (the “Harrods Shopper”) in the first Unexplained Wealth Order case.
Members of Chambers appear frequently in judicial review proceedings for both claimants and defendants. We have particular expertise in dealing with applications arising out of all types of arrest, search and seizure warrants, restraint and forfeiture, decisions relating to the investigation of criminal matters, mutual legal assistance, extradition proceedings, inquests and inquiries, and prison welfare.
Our work in the field of licensing means that we also have considerable experience in dealing with applications for judicial review relating to environmental law and licensing applications and we have appeared in many of the leading cases in these areas.
Members of Chambers are regularly instructed by the government in public law matters. In particular, Hugo Keith QC was a member of the “A” Panel of civil Treasury Counsel for 8 years and continues to be instructed by the government in matters of public law.
As members of the “A” panel of civil Treasury Counsel, Clair Dobbin and Ben Watson are instructed in a wide variety of judicial review claims and advise government departments on a range of public law issues.
We appear regularly in inquests as well as claims for judicial review of coroners’ decisions. We are instructed in inquests of all kinds, including those relating to the action or inaction of the police, medical negligence, product liability, industrial disease and fatal workplace accidents.
