National Police Firearms Conference

Firearms deployments pose unique challenges for policing.

Following the NX121 trial and Supreme Court decisions in W80 [2023] UKSC 24 and Maughan [2020] UKSC 46 the government is undertaking a review of the laws that govern police accountability. It is important that all voices are heard in this regard including those who represent police forces in legal proceedings that follow armed deployments.

On 09 July 2025 Three Raymond Buildings is hosting a police firearms conference for force solicitors and officers involved in armed deployments at a venue in central Birmingham. We will hear from barristers and solicitors instructed in cases such as the Mark Duggan Inquest, Jermaine Baker Public Inquiry and the prosecution of NX121.

We are also fortunate to have specialist speakers from Weightmans Solicitors and two keynote speakers from policing with national profiles.

This will provide a chance for us to share ideas at an important time in armed policing including with those involved with the government’s accountability review.

The conference will also examine the increasingly difficult topic of firearms licensing.

If you would like to attend please email us at training@3rblaw.com

There is no charge for delegates and the event will end with a drinks reception. We will provide full details once attendance has been confirmed.
