Charlotte Branfield presents on financial crime regulation to UK and Ukraine governments

Charlotte Branfield recently delivered a presentation on how to design a robust financial crime legislative and regulatory framework, as part of the UK Government’s Good Governance Fund project “The City-Ukraine Hub”. Topics included: key considerations for effective supervision and regulatory investigations; and approaches to governing foreign direct investments.

Facilitated by the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment, attendees included Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, National Bank of Ukraine, US Agency for International Development (USAID) Investment for Business Resilience Activity, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, British Embassy in Kyiv, UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), Investment Capital Ukraine and the Bureau of Investment Programs.

The City-Ukraine Hub was created to support Ukraine’s recovery and reconstruction. It is funded by UK International Development, FCDO, and its delivery partners are TheCityUK and Abt Global. It provides technical assistance to the Government of Ukraine to support a private sector-led recovery through the redevelopment of financial and related professional services, and the modernisation of Ukraine’s regulatory environment. Activities include: capacity building workshops and training programmes to support government officials and financial services regulators; a corporate twinning programme; support to implement systems and controls related to foreign direct investment; and help identifying financial tools that can mitigate challenges faced by firms in Ukraine including power and labour shortages.
