Hearing into former Spanish King’s request for Sovereign Immunity begins at the Royal Courts of Justice

A preliminary hearing is underway at the Royal Courts of Justice whereby former King Juan Carlos I of Spain is seeking sovereign immunity against claims he used Spain’s spy agency to harass a Danish businesswoman, Corinna zu Sayn-Wittgenstein. The former King denies wrongdoing and is arguing that as a senior member of the Spanish Royal family, despite his abdication, English courts have no jurisdiction over him.

James Lewis QC appears on behalf of Corrina zu Sayn-Wittgenstein, together with Jonathan Caplan QC.
