Police withdraw £1.1M Account Freezing Orders

On 20th April 2021, following detailed legal and factual representations, Leicestershire Police applied to set aside Bank Account Freezing Orders relating to £1.1M transferred from Iran to the UK.

Rachel Barnes and Ryan Dowding acted for the account holder.

Bank account freezing and forfeiture orders are increasingly used by law enforcement agencies, including where there is no evidence of wrongdoing on the part of the account holder but it is alleged the money itself is the proceeds of crime.

Rachel and Ryan have authored a two-part series for Archbold Review about POCA bank account freezing and forfeiture orders more generally: Part 1 – here; Part 2 – here.
