Chessington World of Adventures fined £150,000 over Health & Safety Breach

Chessington World of Adventures has been fined £150,000 and ordered to pay £21,000 in costs by Guildford Crown Court in relation to a breach of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

The breach came to light following an accident in which a four year old girl suffered a fractured skull, fractured ribs and a bleed on the brain.

Passing sentence at Guildford Crown Court, HHJ Noel Lucas QC said: “The risks were obvious and should have been avoided prior to the accident…The repairs in my judgement were shoddy.”

Matthew Butt prosecuted the case representing the Health and Safety Executive.
