Govia Thameslink Railway Limited fined £1m

Govia Thameslink Railway Limited was fined £1 million following the death of a passenger on the Gatwick Express. On a line with a proliferation of trackside objects, the company failed to conduct any assessment of the risks associated with passengers having access to droplight windows, leaving passengers at risk.

Instructed by the Office of Rail and Road, Jonathan Ashley-Norman QC prosecuted the company for a health and safety offence.
