Mother receives a suspended sentence for manslaughter of her 4 month old baby

On 4th November 2015, Mr Justice Haddon-Cave passed a 2 year suspended sentence to a young mother who had pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of her four month old baby son.

She had been suffering from post-natal depression at the time of the incident, and had a complex mental health history including an episode of puerperal psychosis following the birth of the child.

She was represented at Birmingham Crown Court by Jane Humphryes QC and Guy Ladenburg.
