A Metropolitan police custody sergeant was found not guilty of perjury. He was accused of lying at the inquest touching the death of Sean Rigg. The jury unanimously acquitted him after deliberating for just over two hours. The case is the first instance of a Victims’ Right to Review being used to overturn a Crown Prosecution Service Decision to not prosecute a police officer.
Patrick Gibbs QC and Robert Morris represented the officer.
