High Court judgment in Iraqi Civilians v Ministry of Defence

Mr Justice Leggatt today handed down judgment in the cases of four lead claimants, which were heard in two separate trials. Awarding damages to the claimants, the Court found that the Ministry of Defence breached both the Geneva Conventions and the Human Rights Act in the inhuman and degrading treatment and arbitrary detention of the claimants during the conflict in Iraq from March 2003 onwards.

Rachel Barnes was first junior counsel for the claimants in the second trial.
