Miranda is developing a practice across Chambers’ areas of practice. She has a particular interest in general and financial crime, sanctions, international law, public law, inquests, and national security. Miranda is frequently instructed by the Metropolitan Police.

During pupillage Miranda has produced work for other members of chambers on a wide range of matters, including: advice on excluding expert evidence in the first prosecution of breach of the Russia (Sanctions) EU Exit Regulations; research on sanctions applicability to cryptocurrency exchanges; advice on confiscation proceedings under POCA; research in a number of complex extradition appeals; research on free speech issues in regulatory discipline; and evidential issues in murder cases, both at trial and on appeal.

Immediately prior to joining Chambers Miranda worked in the Cabinet Office. She has extensive experience in matters of economic and national security. She also spent time at the Great Britain-China Centre working on criminal justice reform pilot projects in China, and as an advocate for a number of homelessness and migrant charities across London.

Legal Expertise

Civil and quasi-criminal matters overview

Miranda is frequently instructed by the Metropolitan Police Service in applications for civil preventative orders, including Sexual Harm Prevention Orders, Sexual Risk Orders, Stalking Protection Orders, Criminal Behaviour Orders, Forced Marriage Protection Orders, and Gang Injunctions. She has also acted for respondents in similar applications.

Licensing and regulatory overview

Miranda has been instructed to appear for Transport for London in licensing matters in the Magistrates’ Court and the Central Criminal Court.

Crime overview

Miranda has been instructed to appear in a number of Magistrates’ Court trials, including in domestic violence cases. She has represented defendants at sentencing hearings and first appearances on a range of matters, including possession and importation of drugs, assault, and GBH.

Financial crime and proceeds of crime overview

Miranda has been instructed in cash forfeiture applications. During pupillage, she produced advice on complex confiscation proceedings and the applicability of sanctions to cryptocurrency exchanges.

Extradition overview

During pupillage Miranda assisted other members of chambers with research on complex extradition matters, including a challenge to the extradition of a man with significant learning difficulties, and an appeal involving Article 6 retrial rights.

Sanctions overview

During pupillage Miranda produced advice supporting a successful application to exclude expert evidence in the first prosecution of breach of the Russia (Sanctions) EU Exit Regulations, and assisted with various pieces of research regarding sanctions applicability to cryptocurrency exchanges.

Pro bono overview

Miranda is dedicated to building a strong pro bono practice. During pupillage she represented a defendant at trial for a breach of COVID regulations dating back to 2021.

During her legal studies, Miranda volunteered for the School Exclusion Project and the University of London Refugee Law Clinic.

Miranda holds a PhD in Latin American Cultural Studies exploring the play and design of video games in Granma Province, Cuba.

Having spent periods living in China and Cuba, Miranda is proficient in Spanish and has a strong working knowledge of Mandarin Chinese.
