No extradition for US ‘escapee’, High Court rules

The High Court has blocked the extradition of a London-based businessman to the US. Ilan Shlesinger absconded from an open prison in Florida in 1991, and came to the UK. Judges said he had led a “blameless life” since then and concluded that extradition would constitute a disproportionate interference with his right to family life.
